JON ROSKILLY
Jon Roskilly was born in 1987 in Taunton, England. He began to play trombone at 8 years old after having studied the recorder and piano, and after years of playing in brass bands and youth orchestras decided to study for his Batchelors in Classical Trombone at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. After graduating with first class Honours he worked as a teacher in London, mainly in primary schools in Newham in Tower Hamlets, teaching keyboard, brass and Early Years (children from 0-40 months). He moved to Basel in 2013 in order to continue with his studies, finishing his Masters degree in 2015.
Jon is a multi-faceted musician with an interest and professional experience in classical, contemporary, rock and folk music. He has appeared with many ensembles, including Ensemble Phoenix Basel, Klangforum Wien, London Sinfonietta, many orchestras and rock groups such as Gabby Young and Other Animals, Revere and Haken. He is also active as a composer and improviser.
As a teacher in London, he developed his own very creative style which draws a lot on improvisation and chamber music. His aim is always to bring out and work on the specific goals and passions of his students, and the concept of ‘playing’ the instrument is always central to his teaching.
