MARTA MIEZE

Marta.jpg

Latvian mezzosoprano Marta Mieze has lived in Basel since 2013, and is thrilled to be a part of the wonderful ICMS team since 2018. In her work with her students, she focuses on the individual needs and strengths of each aspiring singer. Regardless of her students’ musical development, age, and preferred genre of music, Marta encourages and guides them through the process with support and thoughtfulness.

Marta discovered her passion for singing and classical music at a very young age. After intensive musical training at the music school in her home town of Jelgava (Latvia), she continued her professional training at the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music followed by the singing class at the Conservatorium Maastricht (NL).

As a soloist and choir singer, Marta has participated in various international festivals and opera Pprojects, including the Lucerne Festival, Schleswig Holstein Music Festival, Opera Zuid and Wien Modern. Her repertoire includes works from the late Baroque era through a wide selection of classical and romantic composers to contemporary music. Marta’s greatest passion lies in the opera genre as well as the Lied genre. Throughout the course of her professional life, she has also staged various projects with different orchestral and ensemble formations.

Marta obtained a choral conductor certificate in Church Music at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Luzern, and in addition to singing, she is music director of several choirs in Switzerland. A significant part of her career is devoted to teaching and voice coaching. Since 2019 she has been actively involved in the Basel Girls’ Choir School (Mädchenkantorei Basel), one of the most recognized children’s choirs in Switzerland.

Marta performs with great joy, passion, and dedication in all aspects of her musical career. In her spare time outside of work, she enjoys gardening and traveling, and dreams that someday she will learn how to play the guitar and to speak another foreign language.
